Job Summary | The Vehicle Mechanic Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing vehicles to ensure their safe and optimal operation. The technician ensures adherence to safety standards and maintains accurate records of work performed. |
Duties of Job | 1. Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in vehicles. Repair or replace faulty parts, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems. Conduct advanced troubleshooting to ensure vehicle systems are in good working order. 2. Diagnostics Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve issues. Inspect and test vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering, and brakes. Analyze test results to determine the root cause of malfunctions.
3. Preventive Maintenance Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for vehicles. Perform inspections to detect wear, leaks, or other signs of mechanical failure.
4. Safety Compliance Ensure that all repair and maintenance activities adhere to safety and environmental regulations. Maintain a clean and hazard-free workspace. Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, such as oils and batteries.
5. Documentation & Reporting Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks performed. Document parts used and time spent on each task. Report recurring problems and recommend improvements to vehicle maintenance practices.
6. Customer Interaction (if applicable) Communicate effectively with customers to understand their vehicle issues. Provide clear explanations of repairs needed and estimated costs. Deliver vehicles in clean and operational condition post-repair.
7. Team Collaboration Work closely with other mechanics, service advisors, and supervisors to ensure efficient workflows. Train and guide junior technicians or apprentices as needed.
—- Qualifications 1. Educational Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in automotive technology or mechanics (e.g., ASE certification) is preferred.
2. Technical Skills Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools. Strong knowledge of automotive systems (engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, etc.). Familiarity with both gasoline and diesel engines is advantageous.
3. Experience Minimum of 2–5 years of hands-on experience as a vehicle mechanic. Experience with modern vehicle systems, including hybrids and electric vehicles, is a plus.
4. Licenses/Certifications Valid driver’s license. Specialized certifications in specific vehicle systems or brands are desirable.

—- Work Environment Work may involve exposure to noise, fumes, dirt, and extreme temperatures. Ability to work in tight spaces and handle tools and equipment for extended periods. May require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call duty.
