British American Tobacco Indian Ocean Islands Business Unit regroups Reunion, Madagascar, Comores, Mayotte, Seychelles and Mauritius more than Rs5.2bns in terms of annual turnover. This business unit is part of British American Tobacco Group of companies which has manufacturing operations in more than 50 countries and sells over 300 brands of cigarettes in approximately 180 markets around the world and employs more than 55,000 people worldwide.

British American Tobacco started operations in Mauritius in 1926 with the importation, local manufacture and marketing of cigarettes and other tobacco products. As from June 2007, British American Tobacco moved its focus to a marketing, sales, distribution and service company. It will however continue to source leaf and other materials from Mauritius.
